PAW Patrol Academy
Award-Winning Preschool Learning App
PAW Patrol Academy is Originator's preschool learning app built around the PAW Patrol license: a hub of educational activities, games, coloring, spelling, and video-based lessons, designed for kids ages 2-5 and wrapped around Adventure Bay and the pups. It launched September 29, 2023, and won Google's Best App of 2023.
I joined the team about nine months before PAW Academy's global launch, weighing in on features under the previous producer's roadmap. After launch, I was promoted into the producer role and took over the roadmap myself, feature updates, live ops, and seasonal content on a monthly release schedule. My specific design contributions included Marshall's Numbers, one of the app's core learning activities, Alex's Treehouse, the SEL video activity covered in its own case study, and designing all four of the app's missions along with its main menu.
I also designed the Postman system, which delivered live ops content like Zuma's holiday-themed coloring sheets, and worked alongside the engineering and art leads to determine what content shipped each cycle. Later, I polished the app's progressive XP system, replacing the original launch-date-based delivery model with one driven by player engagement, XP earned through play, with new content rolled out on a Fibonacci-sequence schedule as a reward for continued play. I led a team of 12 across engineering, art, QA, and external contractors throughout this work.
